Practicum: Create a rubric to use in your classroom of key observable elements of accountable talk and productive struggle, with a user-friendly scale applicable to your content area and grade level

Learn how to implement a process that utilizes specific tools to develop skills and strategies needed to plan daily lessons aligned to the Common Core standards.

    Introducing the Seven Steps to Planning a Common Core ELA Lesson Practicum: Create and present a lesson for your class using the Seven Step process and tools

    Learning Outcomes:
    • Perform a Close Reading of selected standards while learning the deconstruction process
    • Participate in a hands-on modeling experience learning to use Socratic methods for Accountable Talk
    • Experience how the power of critical thinking thru collaboration can be infused throughout the Common Core State Standards
    • Define the purpose of productive struggle and how to implement
      Take-away -- Collaboratively develop an observation rubric, that can be used in their classrooms/schools, determining levels of student engagement based on identified elements
    • Explain the rationale for Common Core implementation
    • Identify the new Common Core shifts for English Language Arts
    • Explain the implications by grade level and curriculum
    • Experience lesson plan samples designed for Common Core teaching
    • Identify and collect web resources for lesson planning
    • Build your own lesson plan using your curriculum samples
